101 Things in 1001 Days

This idea fascinates me! Being a (recovering) perfectionist, I want to be able to do it. I NEED to be able to do this. I love writing lists, although I was stuck at #60 for quite some time. I had NO idea what I was going to fill the rest of this list with. Looking at other lists certainly helped and inspired me.

Start: Sunday September 7, 2008

Finish: Sunday, June 5, 2011!!!


  1. Sew dresses for kids. (completed Jan 09)
  2. Sew a skirt or dress for myself.
  3. Knit a Noro sweater.
  4. Refab a t-shirt. (completed Sep 09 – see my Flickr photos)
  5. Embroider something.
  6. Sew curtains for windows. (completed C’s curtains July, 2009. Getting ready to do Z’s)
  7. Find a suitable material for magnets. (completed Oct 09 – can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner!)
  8. Paint our coffee table.
  9. Finish green skirt. (completed November 5, 2008)
  10. Finish felted boxes.
  11. Knit hats for kids. (finished Dec 08)
  12. Make a cardboard chair (Craft magazine). (ack! Hubby threw out cardboard I was saving for this!)
  13. Make a freeform crochet project.
  14. Make another paper mache bowl.
  15. Sell paper mache bowl on etsy.
  16. Sell magnets on etsy. (2 sales so far! December 2009)
  17. Refab worn knit socks into cuffs.
  18. Knit beaded cuffs.
  19. Knit a vest. (finished Dec 08)
  20. Knit a Twinkle design. (in progress)
  21. Frame 3 of my works of art.
  22. Have magnets featured in Vogue Knitting.
  23. Get back into the Creative Mom ATC exchange. (completed Sept. 9/08)
  24. Do the 365 day project on Flickr (or 52 weeks).
  25. Fill up my art journal. (completed October 2009)
  26. Make a quilt.

Learn Something New

  1. Learn how to play guitar.
  2. Take an acting class.
  3. Take a class in something I’ve never tried before.
  4. Learn how to play the oboe.
  5. Try a new cuisine. (November 2009 – Hungarian)
  6. Attend a birth – volunteer as a doula?
  7. Try squash or racquetball.
  8. Attempt golf.
  9. Try a serger. (got one from Mom… now I have to figure out how to use it!)
  10. Try a Pilates class.
  11. Learn how to drive a standard car.
  12. Learn how to steek.
  13. Read and complete “The Artist’s Way”.


  1. Meditate every morning for a week. (completed Jan 09 and still going)
  2. Do a cleanse (research first).
  3. Refrain from eating refined sugar for one month and note the effects.
  4. Refrain from eating wheat for a week and note the effect.
  5. Take another swimming class.
  6. Go canoeing or kayaking with family again. (August 09)
  7. Start and maintain a health journal to keep track of how my body reacts to foods, and my emotional highs and lows during the month. (in progress)
  8. Take a bath once a month. (3/33)
  9. Cross-country ski with hubby.
  10. Attend a week-long silent meditation retreat.
  11. Develop a habit of taking multivitamins and Calcium. (started Ca Jan 09)
  12. Refrain from eating after 8 pm for one month.
  13. Become confident on ice skates.
  14. Become confident on my bike.
  15. Ride my bike on one of the city pathways.
  16. Be grateful for my wrinkly post-childbearing belly.
  17. Hike in the Rockies with my family.

Friends and Family

  1. Go out for dinner with a friend once every 2 months.(7/16)
  2. Call one family member every week.(26/143)
  3. Have a handmade only Christmas. (Thanks to for this one)


  1. Read and do Math Magic book to improve my mental calculations.
  2. Read 10 books that we already own.
  3. Find a way to help honeybees.
  4. Read “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich”.
  5. Read half of the books on the ALA banned book list.
  6. Read the rest of “Conversations with God” series.
  7. Read one more book by Richard Dawkins.


  1. Camp in the Rockies or nearby once a year.(1/3)
  2. Go to Turkey.
  3. Go to the Amalfi Coast.
  4. Try a cruise.
  5. Go to Russia.
  6. Visit Josh in Prague.
  7. See Cirque du Soleil “O” in Las Vegas.
  8. Go to Egypt.
  9. Go to China.

Still on my To Do List

  1. Reread coaching homework and DO IT.
  2. Unpack all the boxes in our house! (completed Dec 08)
  3. Set up studio in basement. (completed October 28, 2008)
  4. Organize the kids’ drawings. (completed Sept 09 – but they are starting to build up a pile again!)
  5. Put photos into albums. (bought a photo album!)
  6. Organize the office.
  7. Get portraits of kids for gifts.
  8. Hang art on the walls. (completed December 2009)
  9. Copy CDs to computer. (completed September 30, 2008)
  10. Copy photos to disk backup. (completed November 15, 2008)
  11. Get home videos copied to DVD.
  12. Get rid of 100 things I no longer need/use/want.
  13. Do another CPR course.

Just for Fun

  1. See Duran Duran in concert again.
  2. Volunteer in a hospital to hold newborn babies.
  3. Befriend someone who is over 70 years old (Thanks to for that one).
  4. Grow my hair long again and then cut it all off for charity and/or to donate.
  5. Figure out the kids’ temperaments in order to better relate to them. (in progress)
  6. Watch movies that won an Oscar for Best Picture.
  7. Read “Twilight” and see what all the fuss is about. (waiting to hear from my mother-in-law if I should bother)
  8. Purchase a rebounder and use it. (rethinking this one… tried a Needak and didn’t like it)
  9. Blog this list. (completed Sept. 7, 2008)
  10. Read “The Art of Sexual Ecstasy”. (started July 2009…but now it’s lost under a pile of other books I am reading!)
  11. Private.
  12. Model for a figure drawing class.
  13. Release 10 books via (almost there!)

    I love your list, it’s given me some great ideas for my follow up 101/1001 list (once this one is completed in 2011).
